OBJECTIVES OF THE LABORATORY
The Laboratory, a specialist unit within the University of Thessaly Department of Planning and Regional Development (DPRD), engages in research and supports teaching needs in the fields of spatial analysis and planning for the development of tourism resources, policy and evaluation, with an emphasis on alternative forms of tourism (such as cultural, ecological and agricultural tourism). It seeks to encourage sustainable development in urban, as well as rural, areas, and the evaluation of the environmental, economic, social and cultural impacts of tourism in regional development.
Its aims include:

Support of the research work and course teaching of the Department of Planning and Regional Development, as well as of other Departments at the University of Thessaly, in topics related to the activities of the Laboratory.

Cooperation with research centres and academic institutes, in Greece and overseas.

Organization of conferences and seminars; invitation of academics and experts from Greece and overseas; publication of material in printed and electronic form

Elaboration of tourism research projects and participation in collaborative research programmes

Provision of specialized consultancy services to local, national and European institutions.
The Laboratory offers its services to local and regional authorities, development corporations, public and private companies, chambers of industry and commerce, national government departments (Ministries of: Tourism, Environment, Energy and Climate Change, Cultures and Sports, Development and Competitiveness etc) European Union institutions and international organizations.
